The Top 10 List - Hottest Girls in Video Games by Kristi Ambrose

Choosing the top 10 hottest video game chicks is not only a hard thing to do, I think its darn near impossible, however, I do have a few choice picks that I would like to mention though. These are ANY women in ANY game on ANY gaming console available to man! Obviously some of these are a given like that of Lara Croft and others? Not so much. I'm not even going to even bother listing these in chronological order because that is simple madness! Video games are most likely tailored to attract boys or the male genre in general. By the video game companies catering to these "men" they have created several different female characters that make these boys actually feel that its okay to play a female role just because she's a hottie.

Alright so I don't agree with the sexism but considering it is a game and it isn't a real person, these video game companies have made even me (a female) play some of these games and think "wow she really is attractive." Okay so it's a dumb thing to think I mean these are "characters" but still, it's a pretty amazing feat to have people drooling over your cartoony self! On to the list, shall we?

Lara Croft - I fought the urge to put this one even on the list but, she is on so many other lists, I had to do it. Okay, we all know Lara's story and I presume most of you are well-acquainted with the ever popular Tomb Raider video game series. However, there are some fascinating facts linked to this character, which some of you may not be aware of. Before Lara's origination, Core Design had to come up with a fashionable lead role for their game and several ideas were thrown around. The purpose was to make a "real-time cinematic game" and to appeal to the ultramodern gamer. Although several might differ, Lara is still one of the sexiest video game heroines ever created!

Rayne - aka BloodRayne - In addition to having a killer physical structure, BloodRayne is known for her cutthroat and predatory nature. She was born after her mom was assaulted by her vampire father (which would account for her predatory). Rayne treats some of her foes brutally and without mercy. Sometimes she envelops her legs around them and sinks her teeth into their necks to feast on their blood.

Farah - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - When Ubisoft renewed the Prince of Persia character with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a new hot icon was born - a nimble young lady, named Farah. This extremely attractive maidenly specimen is the Maharajah's daughter and often assists the Prince in his death-defying travels. Whenever he's stuck some place, Farah is usually there to provide a solution.

Joanna Dark (Perfect Dark Series) - Joanna Dark is the legendary protagonist of the Perfect Dark video game franchise formulated by Rare. In the games, Dark acts as an elite group mercenary who specializes in industrialized espionage. She is working for the Carrington Institute, where she is given the code name "Perfect Dark" in honor of her flawless performance in conditioning trials. Her real name is derived from Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc).

Alice from Resident Evil - A virus has escaped in a classified facility called "The Hive," turning the faculty into ravenous zombies and releasing the mutated Lab "Animals" that they were studying. The complex computer shuts down the base to prevent transmission. The parent corporation sends in elite armed services unit, where they encounter Alice, who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to nerve gas. The military team must shut down the computing device and get out, contending past zombies, mutants, and the computer itself, before the virus escapes and infects the rest of the world. Alice must also come to terms with her slowly-returning memories.

Lightning from Final Fantasy - Character designer Tetsuya Nomura was asked to produce a "female version of Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII". During development, he has described her as "not very feminine". Lightning is a young woman with strawberry-blond hair. She is given an anonymous task by a Crystal. Lightning wields a gun-sword, which can also manipulate gravitation. Lightning is only a codename and her real given name was said to be revealed somewhere with the game's plot. There is a speculation that it might depend on what the player will name her.

Shahdee (Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within) - is a subordinate of the Empress of Time, appearing scantily dressed with a black, short haircut. She is charged with the duty of seeing that the Prince does not attain the Island of Time. Shahdee departs with the cognition that the Empress will kill her if she fails in this duty, demonstrating that she'll do everything in her power to ensure the Prince does not make his destination.

Kasumi - also known as "the Kunoichi of Destiny", is a female ninja skilled in the Mugen Tenshin Style of Ninjutsu. She was to become the 18th Master of the Mugen Tenshin Ninja Clan, but ran away in order to enter the Dead or Alive tournament. There, she hoped to defeat Raidou, the man responsible for crippling her brother Hayate. By leaving the secretive ninja clan, she became a nukenin (runaway shinobi). This means that she must live on the run from her former comrades every day as they seek to silence the "traitorous" Kasumi. Eventually, Kasumi kills Raidou and wins the tournament. She also plays on DOA 2, 3, 4, Volleyball, and DOA Xtreme 2!

Rikku from Final Fantasy - is a playable character in the PlayStation 2 games Final Fantasy X and most notably in Final Fantasy X-2. She is a lively, kind-hearted young Al Bhed girl with blond hair and spiral-shaped pupils instead of the ordinary "dots" - features that all Al Bhed share - and is highly skilled in mechanics, alchemy and thievery. She is the daughter of Al Bhed leader Cid, the younger sister of Brother, and younger cousin of Yuna, whom she calls "Yunie". She speaks English fluently, is mechanically-minded, makes eccentric gestures, and has a tendency to use humor in tense situations.

Jill Valentine from Resident Evil - She first appears as one of two playable protagonists in the original Resident Evil. Along with Chris Redfield, she is a member of STARS' Alpha team, deployed to the Arklay Mountains. Alpha team is attacked by several undead dogs, and retreats to the Arklay Research Facility. Jill initially works with Barry Burton, as they inspect the mansion and discover its undead residents.

The Top Ten List - Most Addicting Classic Games by Kristi Ambrose

This is a tribute to the top ten most addicting games ever! Some of these games are video games, though most of them are online based games through java and flash based engines. Very few classic games stand out through the test of time, and prove their real addition. In 2002 when flash based games become popular, there were only about 10 games to play, and now in the year 2008 there have been about 20 more addicting classic games added to the vault! Most all of these games are ones you are familiar with already but hey, who knows, maybe I will introduce you into one you haven't heard of or haven't given a fair chance! My number one choice for this list is a game that I have been playing since the 80s, I never get tired of it and it never bores me. It can be played on both a console gaming unit as well as different variations online as well through flash processes!

Tetris - This is one of those games that are easy to play, and yet you have to be somewhat skillful. I have been playing this game and have been addicted for as long as I can remember. Different variations online include; Tetris, Tetris 2,3,4,5 and 6. Still my all time favorite is the classical edition. I believe there is also another game named Tetrix which is a lot like Tetris but it doesn't have the original "pieces" for in game play.

Asteroids - Honestly, I could never get into this game, but for some reason some individuals utterly love it, in fact I have seen more game competitions with this game than any other classic game available! Variations include; Asteroids Duel and Asteroids Revenge. The game is a very old school game which I used to play on the arcades when I was a wee one! Relinquished in 1979 by Atari Inc. It was one of the most popular and influential games of the Golden Age of Arcade Games.

Street Fight & Mortal Combat - These two games have evolved over the last few years but, they were also usable in the Arcadia in the late 80s. Mortal Kombat was the first entry in the famous and highly controversial Mortal Kombat fighting game series by Midway Games, released in arcades in 1992. Street Fighter is a 1991 head-to-head fighting produced by Capcom originally released as a coin-operated arcade game.

Super Mario - This game is everyplace, arcade, console, flash, you can even buy it on software and install it on your desktop! Super Mario is a platform game originated by Nintendo in late 1985 and released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, a continuation to the 1983 game, Mario Bros. In Super Mario Bros., the formal character Mario must help Princess Peach (Princess Toadstool in the US version) of the Mushroom Kingdom from the evil Bowser, king of the Koopas. This is as classical and as addicting as it gets. I could play this for hours on end and I know many other people that would say the same!

Pinball - Who doesn't remember playing these pinball games in the arcade!?! Well, now you can play these types of games through flash based capabilities as well. And most of them are really fun and have really good graphics. Certainly, it's not the same as playing the real thing, but if you have to have a substitute this is as good as any!

Legend Of Zelda - This isn't a flash based game obviously, and I have never seen a perfect reproduction online to play, but it is one of the most classic console games ever! Zelda is a high fantasy action-adventure video game series produced by game graphic designer Shigeru Miyamoto and developed and released by Nintendo. The gameplay consists of an assortment of action, adventure, puzzle solving, role-playing and occasional platforming, stealth and racing elements. The series centers on Link, the main playable character and protagonist. Link is frequently given the job of rescuing Princess Zelda.

Bomberman - This is an arcade-style maze-based video game formulated by Hudson Soft. It was first released in 1983. The game was later on ported to the Famicom and published in Japan on December 20, 1985, arriving for the U.S. Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987. This version would later determine Bomberman's more legendary design, a robotic anime-like character with a pink antenna. In 2004, this version of Bomberman was re-released for the Game Boy Advance, part of the Classic NES Series.

Contra - I have seen flash based applications using this game, and it's as fun as I remember playing it on my Nintendo system. The player controls a commando who battles waves of enemies including humans, machines, mutants and aliens to reach his ultimate goal.

Carrier Air Wing - is a 1990 side scrolling shooting game published for the CPS arcade hardware by Capcom. It is the inspirational continuation to U.N. Squadron, published during the previous year. As with the original, players selected any one of three different jet combatants and battle their way through ten enemy-packed stages.

Funny Games - It's Not Funny by Troy Kennedy

I am still to watch the the 2007 remake of the film, but I have just finished watching the 1997 German language version (above). Bearing in the mind the most recent film is a remake of this one almost shot-for-shot I wonder if there still is much point going out to watch it.

The film in undoubtedly dark and makes for some pretty tortuous watching - as you already know. Haneke plays with his victims as well as his audience; the movie is called Funny Games because the tormentors play a series of 'games' with their victims.

Haneke's attempts to admonish those who crave violent movies like 'Saw' or 'Hostel' actually work, a bit of a bloodlust freak myself I was shocked at the inhumanity and callousness of the captors. We really see the effects that the violence in the film, while rather expertly starved from actually seeing the physical violence take place. Like, for instance, we see the father - the man of the house despair as he becomes aware of his impotence to protect his family - they make him beg to enforce this. We also see him sob uncontrollably when he realises his son is dead. These scenes really drive home the point that violence is not simply visually stimulus, Haneke shows that people really get hurt, and death is a big deal.

To avoid calls of hypocrisy, Haneke carefully ensures that every gun shot (bar one), every knife thrust, every golf club beating, is just out of shot of the camera and the audience not exposed to it, he does this with terrific effect.

His characters break the forth wall, perhaps to afford the audience the solace that this is still a movie and this is not happening to real people, and so reduces the emotional impact.

This film has not made not enjoy a gory film as such; but at least has made me aware that films made solely for people to enjoy the gruesome and horrifying way people are meeting their ends are not big and they are not clever.

Did you see the film? Has Haneke's message been portrayed with this?
